Twyla Gettert

Twyla Gettert’s art studies began with classical portrait and figurative painting and gradually turned to abstract and non-objective abstract. This led her to create large-scale paintings, some up to twelve feet works for corporate clients. Her work has been placed in more than 85 corporations and she has been a full-time artist for over 20 years.

Wanting to re-examine her work and turn in different directions to enhance her creativity, she began in 1999, the study of Sumi, Chinese brush painting, and Chinese calligraphy with the renowed Taiwanese artist, Yueh Mei Cheng, and also, Printmaking with Andrew Balkin Printmaking in Madison, WI.

This brought back the discipline of realism and refined her brush stroke, but, also, furthered a realization of the spontaneous ‘chi’ in her mark making. Drawing on her love of creating monotypes on an etching press, she continued to press the boundaries.

The monotype series explores color and intuitive direct brush and color application of oil etching inks to a mirrored copper plate which is then placed on a etching press. The inks transfer onto fine art paper as it is embossing the paper and also reverses the image in the printing process. The plate can run through the press many more times as more layers of color are applied and printed on the same paper. The ink on the plate is then removed. Each completed monotype is one of a kind.

Twyla is inspired by the Abstract Expressionists, By sharing her personal vision and emotion in
painting, she hopes to draw viewers closer to their own inner worlds.

Twyla's art is in over 85 corporate collections and also private collections.

Selected to exhibit at the National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan in two multi- national group exhibitions.
