Nandor Horthy

Painting is my pleasure; indeed it is my life. I have been a full time professional artist for over fifty years and I have enjoyed every moment of it. My love is creating quiet paintings, compelling subject matter and concise, elegant compositions. At this time of my life at 88, I feel confident that I have achieved a good measure of recognition as an artist and I am eternally grateful for being able to express my creativity through art.

Although I attended many art schools I still consider myself to be a self educated painter. Working full time for r fifty years as a professional artist I feel that I was my best teacher.

I am honoured to be an elected signature member of the prestigious Canadian Society of Artists and for 5 years president of the Hungarian Visual Artists of Canada, presently vice president. During my artistic career I have won close to a hundred awards and prestigious prizes.

I have presented many demonstration paintings, lectures and workshops in oil and acrylic in art societies and art clubs in Canada and in the U.S.

During my artistic career I have exhibited in a great number of solo shows and participated in many group exhibitions and competitions in Canada, the United States and Europe.

I am greatly influenced by the “old masters;” the classical painters such as Jan Vermeer, Willem Kalf and Dutch Baroque art. Its timeless beauty has inspired my “still life” scenes and my realistic lighting style.
