Artist Statement:
My paintings explore nature as a living expression of memory, emotion, and change. Botanical forms, fragments of the figure, and symbolic shapes emerge through colour and gesture, moving between recognition and abstraction. Rather than depicting flowers or landscapes literally, I use organic imagery to express states that are difficult to describe in words: longing, vitality, sensuality, vulnerability, and renewal.
I build each painting intuitively through layers of translucent colour, assertive brushwork, drawing, scraping, and revision. Forms appear, dissolve, and re-emerge as the composition develops. Dense passages are balanced by moments of openness, while decorative rhythms coexist with raw, unresolved marks. This tension between beauty and disruption is central to the work.
My early training and career in fashion design continue to influence my attention to colour, pattern, movement, and surface. At the same time, my experience of immigration and cultural displacement has shaped my interest in transformation and the instability of memory. The natural world becomes a fluid visual language through which past and present, observation and imagination, can occupy the same space.
I want the paintings to offer an immediate sensory encounter while resisting a single interpretation. From a distance, they may appear exuberant and seductive; at closer range, their layered surfaces reveal ambiguity, fragmentation, and traces of the painting’s evolution.
