Jeffrey Naile

I create three-dimensional, abstract art. The textures and contrasts of nature have inspired me to develop my unique style. It is created in response to the flat-screened, digitized, preprogrammed, and propagandized existence that so many of us experience. I felt the necessity to unplug from virtual reality when making art and to create real objects from simple materials, such as wood, cement, and acrylic paint. Although I choose to use basic materials to express myself, the results are anything but simple. 

Through my work, I invite the viewer to consider the complementary contrasts of the natural world. The dynamic balances of rough, smooth, light, dark, glossy, and matte all create dynamic tension and release within my art, in much the same way that volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, and wildfires renew forests and restore harmony to the ecosystems on which all life relies. 

Aside from theoretical considerations of any deeper meanings that may be inherent in my compositions, the minimalist, decorative aspects of my sculptural paintings should not be underestimated. The interplay of textures, tones, colors, and forms exists for its own sake. My work does not attempt to be anything other than what it is and my greatest hope is that it will simply be enjoyed.
