Helene Halstuch

I have been an ardent francophile for more than 40 years and I live part time in the Lot Valley in SW France where I paint en plein air. In my Philadelphia studio I create larger paintings from my experience of working directly in the landscape and strive to capture the spirit of place, essence, and mood.
I paint oil on either panel and linen while preferring colors that are rich and luminous with expressive brushstrokes influenced by the French landscape painters that I admire. I choose tranquil and often mysterious subjects which, along with the vibratonal dance of light, color and form, feed my visual appetite. I paint from still life and enjoy exploring monotypes while often using pastels over the printed image.

I studied for two years at Pratt Institute in NY before completing my BFA at the Central School of Art in London. I received my Art Teacher's Certificate from The London Institute of Education.

I have won awards at the Plastic Club of Philadelphia and at the National Association of Women Artists

My craft as a painter is definitely European as is my style. My main influences have been Cezanne, Bonnard, Van Gogh and Matisse
