Artist Statement:
My name is Gary Westall. I was born in London in 1960 and have lived in Germany since 1982. I am a passionate landscape painter. Most of my paintings are created outdoors in nature, en plein air, directly in front of the subject. What drives me is the joy of the moment, the light and the living beauty of the world. On this website you can discover my work, gain insights into my artistic process and find out what inspires me.
About my work
I paint landscapes because I love nature - and because I want to be outside, in the light, in the wind, in the moment. Plein-air painting allows me to do just that: to react directly to what surrounds me. Every brushstroke is a response to what I see, feel and experience.
My work is not only about depicting places, but also about capturing feelings: the expanse of a sky, the shimmering of colors or the calm of a quiet morning. For me, painting is pure joie de vivre and an attempt to share this joy with others.
I invite you to rediscover nature through my paintings - not as a backdrop, but as a living, breathing space that touches and connects us.
My statement:
Look at nature in all its beauty and diversity! Appreciate it, protect it and respect it! The reward will be peace!
Best regards
Gary
