About This Work

This is a painting from my endangered animals’ collection. In Russian snow leopards are called Irbis. It’s a very beautiful name and suits these animals perfectly. Irbis are incredibly graceful mountain animals. Very different from other felines and sadly are endangered. There’s no accurate information about the total population of these animals as they have a very secretive lifestyle but it’s less than 4 000 individuals in the whole world. It’s heartbreaking. The main purpose of this painting is to draw more attention to this fact. This is the easiest thing that I can do. Even if one person reads it and is touched by it I consider it a success. A little bit more about the painting. I really enjoy painting big cats portraits. And I especially love painting strong characters that show superiority in every way. It may seem that every kind of the species looks the same but to me each of them is very individualistic. Each one is different and has its own expressions. By searching and forming the figure I like to build up a whole story. Though it may seem like another ordinary animal portrait, to me it’s a great life captured in its finest strongest state. A dominance in the eyes, a quiet superiority and power.
