While the BFAC as an organization is fairly new, Damon\u2019s experience and passion for figure study are not.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6292\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vitruvian_Man\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6292\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6292   \" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/03\/220px-Da_Vinci_Vitruve_Luc_Viatour.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leonardo da Vinci &quot;Vitruvian Man&quot; wikipedia.org<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When asked why the study of the figure is so important, he said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking from the figure places the artist in a tradition out of which has come some of the most astounding works of art in history, and which extends back before history was written, so the intimate feelings of working from the model are intertwined with a sense of connection to something universally felt, and eternally seen by people. It&#8217;s a blessing and a curse, because neither the artist nor the viewer can escape the comparison to the whole history of figurative art \u2013 to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo\">Michelangelo<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rembrandt\">Rembrandt<\/a>, to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lascaux\">cave drawings<\/a> in France, to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Norman_Rockwell\">Norman Rockwell<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6301\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.egon-schiele.net\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6301\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6312  \" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/03\/Girl-In-Black.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Egon Schiele &quot;Girl in Black&quot; egon-schiele.net<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cPeople have so many associations with figurative paintings and drawings, everyone&#8217;s an expert. It&#8217;s incredibly hard to be good at it, and easy to spot weakness and indecision. Perhaps that&#8217;s one reason it&#8217;s not taught much anymore. But for many of us, it&#8217;s this challenge and the potential reward of achieving something universal and historically connected that makes it worth struggling toward, in spite of all the obstacles.
